Bronze Age Round Barrow
Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire OS Map Ref SE902910
OS Maps - Landranger 94 (Whitby & Esk Dale), Explorer OL27 (North York Moors
- Eastern Area)
This nicely preserved round
barrow stands close to the junction of two tracks to the north of the Langdale
Forest and is fairly close to the earthworks of Dargate
Dikes as well as several other more damaged barrows. Despite being in a Forestry Commission planting area and next to the track this mound has survived quite well and still measures about 20 metres in diameter and over 2 metres tall although it is difficult to gauge the exact height as it is heavily overgrown with bracken, thistles and nettles. As far as is known, the barrow has never been excavated. Date: Bronze Age |
