Spell Howe
Bronze Age Round Barrow ?
Southeast of Folkton, North Yorkshire  OS Map Ref TA065788
OS Maps - Landranger 101 (Scarborough), Explorer 301 (Scarborough, Bridlington & Flamborough Head)

This possible Bronze Age round barrow is on private land, within the gardens of 'Spell Howe' house and is not accessible. It can however be glimpsed through the undergrowth from the side of the road and appears to be a smallish mound about 1.5 - 2 metres in height and 10 - 15 metres in diameter. Be careful though, this road can be very busy during the summer.
Update: This barrow does not appear on English Heritage's list of scheduled ancient monuments although the words Spell Howe appear on the OS maps in the style of lettering used of these sites. However what does appear on the maps is a covered reservoir in the grounds of the house - this could be the earth mound visible through the fence. If you have any information about the existence of a barrow here, please contact me.
