The initial view is southwest over the recumbent setting towards the Cairngorms and Lochnagar on the horizon while the hill of Morven is prominent on the skyline 10km (6 miles) to the west. Tomnaverie was excavated between 1999-2000 and partially restored afterwards with many of the smaller stones scattered within the circle belonging to the kerb of a cairn.
